How to deploy Brother P-touch Editor with Microsoft Intune

Step 1: Download Brother P-touch Editor application

The first step is to download the Brother P-touch Editor application from the official website. This is a bit tricky. If you already have the software downloaded you can go ahead to step 2. If not, just follow the steps below:

  • Go to https://support.brother.com/g/b/midlink_productcategory.aspx?c=ch&lang=de&content=dl&site=pc&orgc=ch&orglang=de&targetpage=17
  • Choose your device from the list. Click through it until you are at the Downloads tab.
  • Now scroll down to the Editor Tool. Click on the application to install it. Note you will need to enter a Serial-Number to download the application.

After you have entered your Serial number, the download of the Brother P-touch Editor will start. In your Downloads folder, you should now have the application. If you have it, you can go ahead to step 2.

Step 2: Prepare application executable

After you have downloaded the Brother P-touch application the next step is to create an Intune Win App. But first we will need to do some adjustments to the executable. Because, the .exe file does strangly not have any quiet install parameters. Just follow the steps below:

  • Make sure you have some sort of Archiver software installed. For example 7-zip. We need it now.
  • Extract the downloaded executable from step 1. With 7-Zip right click on the file, click on 7-Zip and than on Extract Here.

Now you should have two new folders. If you have downloaded a different version of Brother P-touch your folder can have a different name.

  • Navigate to Editor54 [Can have a different name EditorXX]
  • Navigate to the second folder (not ADE!). Depending on the language it has a different folder name. But usually US / GER.
  • In there you should have a MSI file something like Ptedit54.msi. [Can have a different name PteditXX.msi]

Save this file. We are going to use this file to create a Win32 application in the next step.

Step 3: Create Win32 application

After you have downloaded the Brother P-touch application and extracted the PteditXX.msi executable we can now start and create an Intune Win Application.  Just follow the steps below:

  • Create a new folder DeployBrotherPtouch on C:Copy the executable from step 2 into this folder. Note that the executable can have a different name.
  • Create a new folder Output on C:

Now we are going to create an Intune Win file with the official application. First of all download the official Microsoft Intune Win App Tool.

  • After installation open the Intune Win App Tool. Important: You need to open the Tool with Administrator right. Otherwise there will be an error.

In the application specify the following things:

  • Please specify the source folder: C:\DeployBrotherPtouch
  • Please specify the setup file: Ptedit54.msi [Enter the executable file. This can be different]
  • Please specify the output folder: C:\Output
  • Do you want to specify catalog folder: N

In your Output Folder, there should be a new file Win32 file. We use this in the next step to deploy it with Microsoft Intune. You can now procceed to step 4.
